King Kong, age 5, of Oklahoma, was born in 2002. He left this life on November 20, 2007.
Okay, I'm not much of an obituary writer, but if ever a whitetail deserved an obituary, King Kong did.
King Kong gave the BuckVentures boys a lot of heartache during his brief existence. As you may recall, Jeff (Danker) had many encounters with King Kong during the 2006 hunting season, but was never able to kill the giant. Entering the 2007 hunting season, King Kong was needless to say on BuckVentures' Whitetail Hit List. BuckVentures Outdoors pro-staffer and co-owner, Paul Bange, had a few encounters with King Kong during the Black Powder season, but as usual, King Kong managed to slip away and survive. However, during the rut, his survival tactics finally met their match when he ventured off BuckVentures' property and neighbor Dane Drake was fortunate enough to kill the monarch. King Kong scored an amazing 201 B&C. He broke off an approximate 10' droptine or he would have scored 211 B&C! The recovery of King Kong was filmed and will air on a future BuckVentures Outdoors show. So the infamous King Kong is gone ... his giant sheds will not be found this shed hunting season... and the anticipation of next year's deer hunting season has lost a little luster. Some may say, it's just a deer ... move on. Those that say that would be correct ... we need to move on. But believe me, King Kong was not just another deer. Even though he was not harvested by any of the BuckVentures Outdoors pro-staff, his legacy will live on forever in BuckVentures Outdoors' history ... Long live the legend of King Kong.
This is a follow-up story to The Legend of King Kong.
