With a dry 2008 year behind me last year due to an extreme need to grow my business I was itching to kill somethingthis 2009 season. My partner Darryl Jackson and I acquired this ground late in the summer and we spent every availableweekend out there hanging stands and checking trail cams to try and get on Mr. big early in the year...
Iowa is definitely the place to be! This is all I’ve heard for the last several years. I have done some hunting in Iowa, but it was on public land. I’ve even had encounters with some giants, but I’ve never been able to make a connection....
This story begins in August 2008 when I was first introduced to Buckventures Outdoors @ the TWF Wildlife Extravaganza in Franklin, TN. I was volunteering at the TWRA (Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency) booth that weekend checking in deer for the “Big Buck” contest....
Well the quest for this particular deer started in the summer of 09. I had just obtained this lease and put out a few trail cameras. This buck was in one of the first pictures I saw. He was there all the time, him and several other younger bucks....
At the beginning of August I was in high hopes of putting my tag on a Kansas monster then on august 8th my hopes were shattered. I was out checking pastures for my dad when the horse I was riding decides he wanted to throw a little fit! In the process of his fit he flipped over backwards with me still on his back and landed with my leg pinned under his side....
Well its blackpowder in Kansas. We were hunting with Aaron Bayse of Kansas whitetail madness. The first weekend we were there we didnt see a whole lot during daylight hours. We had the Moultree cameras out and were getting five or six booners just all past dark....
Consistency finally pays off, at least thats the moral to this story. Our season started out great with Seth taking a beautiful 140 with Aaron Bayse of Kansas whitetail madness......
Ok so now Jeff and I are officially ROLLING! Jeff has shot a 145” and a 176” and I have shot a 130” in Nebraska all in less than a week from each other. Since Jeff is tagged out in OK I get to hunt!!!! YIPPEEE!!!
The trail camera pics said it all. There was a giant whitetail roaming the woods at KSBUCKS! While I studied the pictures, I realized the deer had a “wicked” looking drop tine skirting the side of his face. Thus, the name “Wicked”.....
I have hunted all my life dreaming of a double main beam buck.............
Ok so here’s the story so far. On Nov. 10 Jeff laid down a brute of an 8 point at the Wallahachie. On the morning the 11th…… the very next day....

It was the morning of our last day's hunt in West Texas. After discussing it he sat us in a tower blind with headers on either side of us. We had deer on us as we were getting in the blind. Daylight brought.....
Well our season had been off to a slow start, however, James Roberts bagged a trophy 173" whitetail in Kansas. With our backs against the wall, James made a call to Omar Velazquez with Texas Quality Hunts. Omar said he had still been seeing a lot of activity...
Well it all started in Illinois. Bran and I had made the drive to Midwest Adventures for a late season muzzleloader hunt. We were joined by Marc Heitz and Chris Cathey of Auto Accessories Unlimited. Right off the bat it started bad....

Well Code Blues Steve Lambeth had agreed to come hunt with us and we were excited!! I picked him up at the airport the day after Thanksgiving and we headed west. Andy and Kelly Bledsoe were at our River Mesa lease so we decided .....
My Dad and I scheduled our first hunt together this year for NW Oklahoma. He's not much of the deer hunter, but he enjoys going to film me. So for sentimental reasons...
Well we had had quite a day. I had shot my largest typical ever (170 2/8), and my cameraman Brandon Adams had shot his largest buck ever a 160 inch Muley and it felt good!!! As I began to think what else could make this even better....
The bad luck streak had just been laid to rest when Jeff pulled the trigger on "Tip". Now with a new sense of optimism I set out that night with cameraman James Blue (our lucky charm), in hopes of killing a big...
Disappointment and sorrow sums up Jeff's hunt at Republican Valley Whitetails in '08. After 18 days of hard and I mean HARD hunting the trip yielded only a few bucks over 130" and one very close encounter...
I have been keeping in touch with Bill and Chris Purdun known as B&CPurdun on the forum. I had filmed James Roberts for early season bow in October in Missouri at their place. Two days before my hunt I sat a blind up in a field under an oak tree overlooking a small grove of oaks in a corner of a pasture. The plan was to hunt my son Mason there because we were seeing lots of 100” deer there and this would be a golden opportunity....
